Our Partners in Sumatra were initially
introduced to coffee in the highlands on the north-eastern side of Lake Toba around 1888 and then the Gayo Highlands in Aceh near Lake Laut Tawar around 1924. The other main province for quality arabica production is Lintong, on the south-western edge of Lake Toba.
Due to Sumatra’s volatile weather, wet-hulling is the main method used to process coffee beans which are dried until they reach ~50% moisture content, producing a complex, earthy and unique flavor.
